We're going to see more and more of this, as militant homosexuals and unrepentant sinners press on in their attempt to twist scripture to fit into their sinful lifestyles in these last days as the world becomes more and more wicked.
Newsweek: Bible OK With Same-Sex 'Marriage'
Gay Marriage Our Mutual Joy
Either Lisa Miller has never read the Bible or she is lying. Jesus Christ said:
"But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife... "Mark 10:6,7
Certainly, even a child could understand the above words of Jesus Christ regarding marriage.
To be clear, born-again Christians are not immune to sin, and all struggle with some sin or another at one time or another, and these sins are known as besetting sins mentioned in Hebrews 12:1-4 ~~
"Wherefore seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking
unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider Him that endured
such contradiction of sinners against Himself lest ye, be wearied and faint in your minds."
A besetting sin is any sin in general and can have a negative effect of distracting a Christian from the calling that has been placed on one's life by Christ for the sake of His gospel message to be a witness for Christ.
Sanctification comes when one is born again of the Spirit of God and God's amazing grace is always sufficient to see us through.
However, no one who truly loves the Lord and is born of God will want to continue to promote a sinful life style that is unpleasing to the Lord or deliberately sin and go against what is written in His Word as the writer of the Newsweek fiction story is attempting to pass off as truth.
The Apostle John tells us that whoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1John 3:9. and Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 1 John 3:6
The Apostle Paul gives an illustration of besetting sins when he explains how the sinful flesh cannot please God in Romans Chapters 7 and 8 when he himself struggled with some sort of sin as he explains how the flesh and the spirit within are at war with each other, but most certainly, Paul never promoted or endorsed sin.
Paul said in his struggle against sin in Romans 7: "For I know that in me (that is, in myflesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 18 For the good that I would I do not; but the evil which I would not, that I do." 19.
So, we can easily see from the Apostle Paul's illustrations, from what Hebrews tells us of besetting sins, and from what the Apostle John writes, and most importantly what Jesus himself said of marriage and sin and hell, it is evident that Lisa Miller of Newsweek has never even read the Bible and perhaps now is a time to start.
