Netanyahu Stops Short of Consenting To Palestinian State in Meeting With Abdullah of Jordan

Standing his ground in a meeting with Abdullah II of Jordan, who demanded Netanyahu commit to a PA state inside the land of Israel immediately prior to Netanyahu's meeting with Obama next week in Washington, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told Abdullah II and promised that he would pursue peace negotiations with the Palestinians, stopping short, however, of consenting to Abdullah's request that he come out in favor of a Palestinian state.
  • After King Abdullah’s discussions with President Obama in Washington last month, the monarch warned that war will break out within the next 18 months if Israel does not accept the Saudi Arabian 2002 Peace Plan, based on shrinking the size of Israel to that which existed in 1949. The plan also calls for the right of approximately five million foreign Arabs to immigrate to Israel on the basis of their families having once lived there, prior to fleeing during the 1948 War of Independence.
