Officer at periscope in control room of a U.S. Navy submarine in World War II
Bizaare things are happening in the Atlantic Ocean. First a catastrophic oil rig explosion, the likes of which we have never seen in the Gulf of Mexico, or anywhere in the world for that matter, and now a boater off of Hollywood Beach spots what is described as a submarine periscope. off Hollywood Beach in Florida. . Read about it here.
For those of you unaware, a naval use of a periscope allows a submarine, when submerged at a shallow depth, to search for targets and threats in the surrounding sea and air. When not in use, a submarine's periscope retracts into the hull. A submarine commander in tactical conditions must exercise discretion when using his periscope, since it creates a visible wake and may also become detectable by radar, giving away the sub's position.
Definitely perplexing times, just as Jesus said:
And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the mon, and in the stars, and upon earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and waves roaring. Luke 21:25
